When to see a doctor
Questions, answered first
Why does my bump itch?
A bump that itches is usually dry, stretching skin, worst in the third trimester and at night. Moisture overnight is what breaks the itch-scratch loop. One thing to know: severe, all-over itching, especially on palms and soles, is not dry skin.
What helps settle the itch?
A nourishing oil or lotion at night, reapplied whenever skin feels tight. Loose cotton, a cool room and not scratching all help. If the itch keeps you awake or spreads well beyond dry areas, check with your doctor.
When should I see a doctor?
Severe or all-over itching, itching on palms and soles, or itching with a rash, yellowing skin or dark urine needs a same-day doctor call - these can signal something beyond dry skin. Everyday dryness itch is common and eases with moisture.
